October saw the commencement of the second cohort of Level 4 Digital Forensic Technician apprentices, from West Midlands Police and West Yorkshire Police.
This is the second cohort on this apprenticeship and it has successfully attracted a diverse range of people, particularly younger applicants who may not previously considered careers in forensics.
All of the forces involved in the first two cohorts, who are working with learning provider Blue Lights Digital, are delighted with the enthusiasm and attitude of their apprentices.
There is a third cohort starting in early 2025 and there is still time for other forces to come on board.
Please contact FCN's Dr Jo Morrissey or the learning providers offering the apprenticeship if you have any questions.
The benefit that apprenticeships provide has been recognised recently (24th September 2024) by the UK Government in their announcement to "boost opportunities for young people through ambitious apprenticeship reforms in England".
The FCN would like to acknowledge the commitment of the community in providing support to the learners and each other. More information about this apprenticeship can be found here.
Level 7 Digital Forensic Professional
The FCN and the digital forensic community have also created a Level 7 Digital Forensic Professional Apprenticeship which has been approved for delivery by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. This apprenticeship has been designed for experienced digital forensic practitioners who are interested in future developing their knowledge and skills.
The standard is available here.
Cranfield University has been accepted as a provider for this apprenticeship and are now accepting applications for the first cohort in early 2025. Details are available here.
Police forces are currently able to use levy funding for this apprenticeship.
