2nd Strategic Workshop to Develop a Science and Technology Profession for Policing: The Future of Forensic Sciences
The Police Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) has set out a National Police Chiefs’ Council S&T Strategy. The vision is: to deliver the most science and technology led police service in the world.
To realise this vision requires increased scientific literacy across policing and to ensure that our science specialists are valued and given the opportunity to develop. We also need to set the conditions for success which will require an enabled workforce with the right skills and expertise to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. We will develop an S&T Profession in policing through a partnership with academia and industry to inspire the current and future generations in S&T careers in policing. This will also contribute to meeting the challenges identified in the Policing Productivity Review, (October 2023).
This is the second workshop in a series sponsored by the Police CSA and The Network for Security, Excellence and Collaboration (NSEC) which aims to help develop ideas, new concepts and address challenges in delivering an S&T Profession, and notably how academia may contribute to these activities. This workshop will offer an opportunity to influence how this might be achieved from its very beginning. Following on from the first workshop which looked at the strategic enablers and inhibitors to developing a S&T Profession, this workshop will continue to explore the S&T landscape, but with an emphasis on Forensic Science in its broadest form. Indicative questions are:
- How will forensic science change in the next ten years?
- What will be the driving forces for this change?
- How can the academic community help navigate these changes and support the development of the S&T Profession?
- What are the implications both now and in the future for professional development in the Police Forces?
Professor Paul Taylor, the National Police Chief Scientific Adviser will deliver the opening keynote supported by other senior individuals from across National Policing community.
We would welcome participation from not only those already engaged in Policing S&T but also from other academic disciplines. The event is free to attend and refreshments will be provided. To join us please register online.
