Digital Forensics

What are we delivering?

A range of new digital forensics products and capabilities to help meet the aims and objectives laid out in the Digital Forensic Science Strategy and support and empower forces to transform digital forensics. New capabilities will ultimately be delivered through FCN Xchange as services for forces signed up as FCN members.

What difference will it make?

The work we deliver will increase productivity and efficiency in digital forensics units, reduce risk for forces, and help drive a proactive, sustainable, scalable national approach to digital forensics, leading to reduced harm to victims, increased public safety and improved confidence in the criminal justice system.

“Really impressive work coming from the FCN. So positive to see work progressing forward for the future.” Digital Forensic Team Leader

Our initial DF products, services and capabilities

  • Digital Forensic Science Strategy: laying out a whole-system approach to digital forensic science, industrialised, consistent and standardised use of technology, and new approach to workforce development. Available here
  • ‘CSE Automate’: developing an automated approach to dealing with images relating to child sexual exploitation cases (CSE). We anticipate this will lead to up to a 20% annual increase in productivity for DF units
  • National guidance for managing legacy DF data; helping forces to manage a key risk
  • Baseline review: working with forces to map existing DF capabilities, to inform future plans and activities.

Future developments and products will build on these, based on the needs of FCN members.
