Digital fingerprint capability

What are we delivering?

A networked, end-to-end digital fingerprint capability enabling forensics teams to send captured images from a crime scene to Fingerprint Bureau, compare prints, record the analysis, comparison and evaluation process and integrate with biometrics databases. The capability will ultimately be delivered as a service through FCN Xchange for forces signed up as FCN members.

What difference will it make?

The new capability will improve consistency and standardisation and make processing fingerprints faster and more efficient, increasing the quantity and quality of evidence and data, helping to identify victims and offenders more quickly and leading to improved operational outcomes. It will also help reduce costs and balance demand and capacity.

How will it work?

  • FCN CSI Mobile; FCN CSI Web: enabling digital images to be transferred directly from crime scene to FCN Bureau.
  • FCN Bureau: receives images and info in real-time and digitally manages the fingerprint examination and comparison process.
  • FCN Fingerprint Enhancement: enabling fingerprint enhancement laboratory staff to upload digital images into FCN Bureau and FCN Xchange.
  • FCN Xchange: cloud-based platform through which the fingerprint capability, and other digital tools, workflow and automation opportunities, can be accessed.

We’ve also developed a detailed business change process to support deployment.
