FCN works closely with members and the wider forensic community to identify, prepare and implement new capabilities.
This includes acting as the eyes and ears of members by horizon scanning for emerging capabilities, new opportunities and potential threats, and supporting great ideas from concept to implementation.
Turning forensic roadmaps to reality
FCN’s science and innovation team will ensure there are clear forensic capability roadmaps to turn requirements or ideas into reality. This will support the consistent delivery of forensic science now and in future, and help to improve the overall scientific knowledge base.
To do this, FCN will:
- Develop specific forensic capability roadmaps for members
- Manage a clear direction for each discipline in consultation with forces
- Provide tactical and strategic advice on roadmaps
- Collate trends of requirements from forces, enabling many to benefit simultaneously
Our science and innovation team will continually strengthen the base of scientific knowledge and evidence available to members.
We work with members, academia, forensic service providers, the Forensic Science Regulator, government scientists and many others to ensure members have access to the best available scientific advice, horizon scanning, planning and forecasting.
We aim to respond to initial queries within one day and resolve simple queries within two days, while more complex queries will have a timeline set out within five days.
