Ethics framework

To ensure an ethical approach to forensic service provision, FCN is developing and implementing a forensic science ethics framework.

FCN aims to ensure ethical considerations are at the heart of all design and evaluation within forensic science, particularly in new capabilities.

To do this, we are:

  • Developing and implementing the forensic science ethics framework on behalf of members
  • Acting as the authority on ethics by offering guidance and ensuring compliance
  • Providing tactical and strategic advice on the framework and monitoring feedback from forces
  • Gathering and collating trends of ethics queries to help with forecasting and providing advice to all members

Our team

Our science and innovation team will continually strengthen the base of scientific knowledge and evidence available to members.

We work with members, academia, forensic service providers, the Forensic Science Regulator, government scientists and many others to ensure members have access to the best available scientific advice, horizon scanning, planning and forecasting.

We aim to respond to initial queries within one day and resolve simple queries within two days, while more complex queries will have a timeline set out within five days.
